The first Knödel Relay in 2025 went extremely well, with over 80 teams and a great atmosphere, exciting handovers and a running field that stayed together, providing plenty of close contact between teams. For 2026, we plan to continue with our tape snake handover chute, and forgo the traditional specator control.
Why have we added a relay to the BF5Days?
The short answer: Orienteering relays are a lot of fun.
We want to offer you another run: the Knödel Relay will be on Day 3, Monday 3 August 2026. The Start will be around 1400, after the last of the individual runners have returned. The focus of the relay is on the fun of relays and excitement of a mass start, running in a team and the sprint to the finish. A relay team consists of 3 runners: the 1st and 3rd have a forked course of approx. 2200m, and the 2nd has an unforked simpler course of approx. 1100m (M/W12). The team must meet the following requirements:
To enter the Knödel Relay, a team must consist of 3 runners.
To be considered for the ranking of the relay, the team must have at least 7 points
M18, M20, M21E, M35, M40: 1 Point
M16, M45, M50, W16, W18, W20, W21E, W35, W40: 2 Points
M14, M55, M60, W45, W50: 3 Points
M10, M12, M65, M70, M75, M80, W10, W12, W14, W55, W60, W65, W70, W75, W80: 4 Points
The relay team members do not have to come from the same club. There is no minimum number of women/men/children in a relay team.
The relay result does not count towards the overall ranking of the BF5Days, but there will of course be a Prize Giving for the Knödel Relay winners with prizes for the fastest 3 ranked teams. If your team has less than 7 points, you can of course still run in the relay, but the final result will not be included in the ranking and not quality for any prizes.
Registration and fees: One team member needs to sign the team up on Orienteering Online and should include a team name. The individual runners do not need to be confirmed until day 3 until 1100, at the BF5Days 2026 Event Centre. The Relay fee is 15 Euro per TEAM. No advance payment is required, simply pay in cash on the day. You can also sign up on days 1, 2 and 3 until 1100. We will print enough maps, even for last-minute registration. Like in 2025, we will have a „looking for teammates“ notice at the Event Centre, so if you want to run and can’t find a team, we will help you! We will organise a „meet your team“ time before the relay so you can get to know your team – this was the feedback from 2025. There is no late registration fee.
